W4 - Seven Habits

  Creating good habits will help you accomplish many things in life. The advice of Steven Covey has helped me grow therefore I want to spend a little bit of time reviewing all the habits mentioned in his book. The seven habits of success as taught by Steven Covey is a pathway that will lead us to achieving any endeavor we choose to embark on. Covey’s method focuses on personal growth from a state of being dependent, to independence and finally into interdependence. W03 Reflection

  “A Hero’s Journey” talked about a few principals that were key takeaways. First, I have a very special mission as plan of God’s eternal plan. My mission on earth will be successful if I have enough faith and courage to endure the trials I face. Even in my imperfections I can be profitable spiritually and physically in any career. The key is to find my passion and strengths then work toward admirable goals. Second, we need to learn how to learn, by listening. Thinking back on people I most admire; people would learn to understand tend to be better teachers. The act of listening sounds pretty simple but it's been hard for me in my life to connect with people who just listen. When someone actively engages in listening, they ask questions that help me to be introspective. These deep conversations lead to me gaining more knowledge.   W02 Study: Honesty & Business Ethics and How Will You Measure Your Life As a child I remember my mom always saying honesty is the best policy. This advice has served me well throughout my life. In Elder Robbins talk his description of Adam and Eve in the garden with quote pride struck me. I realize that as I go through my I am happy here if I worry about making my own needs versus what other people have that I don't. One great example of this has to do with family. My husband and I I'm not able to have children for reasons beyond our control. Our first ten years of marriage was less happy because we focused on not being able to have something other people did. PRIDE As maturity set in, we spent more energy on what we could do because we didn't have children instead of what we didn't have. For example, any time a neighborhood kid is having a fundraiser for dance or soccer they know we will always be willing and able to contribute. We have learned that through ...
