W01 Reflection #2 - Dreaming
I think Randy Pausch was able to achieve his dreams for a
couple different reasons. First, he had clear direction. He was goal orientated.
Changing, and adapting but always keep his end goal in mind. Secondly, Randy
was tenacious not giving up or giving in. When he hit a brick wall he would
learn from the past, make corrections, and then keep going after the necessary
adjustments were made. Lastly Professor Pausch was creative, he approached
problems by presenting imaginative and innovative solutions.
Dreams are important because without them you can't imagine
life different way. If you can't imagine like the different way, then you are
bound to be stuck where you've always been. Therefore, to me it is important to
dream bank and dream often. However, dreams can change over time and adapt once
you spend time working with your skills and talents.
As a child I dreamed of becoming a nurse. However, as I
progressed through high school, I realized that science was not my strong suit.
I had a difficult time memorizing and reciting scientific names. Because
nursing is a film that requires lots of knowledge about scientific names words
diseases and medications it became evident to me that being a nurse would be difficult
it's not impossible for me.
I also dreamed of marrying young and having eight children. That
dream didn’t happen for me, I needed to learn patience. Life did not turn out
the way I dreamed of as a child as I changed my dreams and dedicated positive
energy to other good things. It took me a better part of a decade to learn that
life isn’t perfect, but it is still great. As I age, I am learning more and
more that it is important to seize the day. If you live each day fully you can
be satisfied at the end of your life that you've done everything you could do
to make the world a better place.
