WO 07 Final Reflection

This semester has been full of knowledge on the true meaning of entrepreneurship. Before taking this class my understanding of entrepreneurship was something like money hungry people who value success in life only about accumulating wealth. Thankfully my knowledge has deepened, as I now understand entrepreneurship is more then pridefully building an empire. If I were to give one final lecture about entrepreneurship it is to approach it as a way to be beneficial to all humankind. Finding a niche that provides people an avenue to have a better life is a great thing that we can all experience if we put our mind to it. There's nothing wrong with money in inherently in itself, as long as you use that money for good and not for evil. For instance, when you have one you are required to give a liberally. As disciples of Christ, we have agreed to take the name of Christ upon us and part of that is providing for the sick needy and inflicted. People who live in poverty have less opportuni...

Gratitude and Life's Lessons

“An Attitude of Gratitude” by President Thomas S. Monson is a great reminder to appreciate those people in our lives that help edifies us along our journey. President Monson’s story about his Sunday school teacher Sister Gertsch helped me understand that my actions are seen by many young people in my neighborhood and ward. By giving service to those around me I can help other people feel the love of Christ. I hope I can help the youth I associate with become better followers of Christ and citizens of our country. When reading about the role of Entrepreneurship, I learned that the point where social needs, personal satisfaction and economic visibility meet you find a sweet spot for as successful entrepreneur business. Being successful isn't just about creating wealth, it is also about making other people's lives better. I also understand that many people want entrepreneurship as a way to become rich quickly, but for me I don't want to put riches over the success of my fa...

W06 Generosity and Money

This week's article “What's a Business For” by Charles Handy discusses capitalism, and some of the pros and cons as viewed by the world. Many people believe the word capitalism is evil inherently in itself, but it does not need to be. If a company demonstrates its mission is about bettering life other people they can prove that corporations can be virtuous and their actions and success bring the greater good of mankind all around the world. As Mr. Handy explains the real justification for business is not to make a profit but to make money so the business can grow to be something more or better. The real justification is to make social change. Profitable companies can promote social change because they have the money and backing of stakeholders to do so. In “Attitude on Money” by Stephen W. Gibson I learned that people see money differently. Just like glasses with a filter provided different view our upbringing also influences our adult view on money. For example, my parents...

W4 - Seven Habits

Creating good habits will help you accomplish many things in life. The advice of Steven Covey has helped me grow therefore I want to spend a little bit of time reviewing all the habits mentioned in his book. The seven habits of success as taught by Steven Covey is a pathway that will lead us to achieving any endeavor we choose to embark on. Covey’s method focuses on personal growth from a state of being dependent, to independence and finally into interdependence. Dependence 1.        Be proactive – Recognize you have the ability to choose how you act when any certain happens. 2.        Begin with the end in mind - If you start with the clear destination in mind, steps you take are more likely to get you into the right direction. 3.        Put first things first - This entails having priorities in your life outlined so the actions that you take everyday help you stay focused on what r...

W03 Reflection

“A Hero’s Journey” talked about a few principals that were key takeaways. First, I have a very special mission as plan of God’s eternal plan. My mission on earth will be successful if I have enough faith and courage to endure the trials I face. Even in my imperfections I can be profitable spiritually and physically in any career. The key is to find my passion and strengths then work toward admirable goals. Second, we need to learn how to learn, by listening. Thinking back on people I most admire; people would learn to understand tend to be better teachers. The act of listening sounds pretty simple but it's been hard for me in my life to connect with people who just listen. When someone actively engages in listening, they ask questions that help me to be introspective. These deep conversations lead to me gaining more knowledge. I've also found that people who truly listen are more able to show empathy and bring me closer to Christ. Finally, “A Hero’s Journey” stresses the impo...

W02 Study: Honesty & Business Ethics and How Will You Measure Your Life

W02 Study: Honesty & Business Ethics and How Will You Measure Your Life As a child I remember my mom always saying honesty is the best policy. This advice has served me well throughout my life. In Elder Robbins talk his description of Adam and Eve in the garden with quote pride struck me. I realize that as I go through my I am happy here if I worry about making my own needs versus what other people have that I don't. One great example of this has to do with family. My husband and I I'm not able to have children for reasons beyond our control. Our first ten years of marriage was less happy because we focused on not being able to have something other people did. PRIDE As maturity set in, we spent more energy on what we could do because we didn't have children instead of what we didn't have. For example, any time a neighborhood kid is having a fundraiser for dance or soccer they know we will always be willing and able to contribute. We have learned that through ...

W01 Reflection #2 - Dreaming

Image
I think Randy Pausch was able to achieve his dreams for a couple different reasons. First, he had clear direction. He was goal orientated. Changing, and adapting but always keep his end goal in mind. Secondly, Randy was tenacious not giving up or giving in. When he hit a brick wall he would learn from the past, make corrections, and then keep going after the necessary adjustments were made. Lastly Professor Pausch was creative, he approached problems by presenting imaginative and innovative solutions. Dreams are important because without them you can't imagine life different way. If you can't imagine like the different way, then you are bound to be stuck where you've always been. Therefore, to me it is important to dream bank and dream often. However, dreams can change over time and adapt once you spend time working with your skills and talents. As a child I dreamed of becoming a nurse. However, as I progressed through high school, I realized that science was not my...
